Why we host the Business Talk™

The Business business talk is our annual development Seminar which we host every year at the Durban University of Technology. The reason why we host this event every year is because we are trying to create a culture of youth entrepreneurship amongst young people in our country. Our goal is to encourage, motivate and inspire the youth to start thinking about and pursuing entrepreneurship as a career in order to become job providers rather than job seekers.  it is no secret that youth unemployment continues to be in a serious problem in the country.  Rather than become part of the problem our objective and goal is to become part of the solution by creating a platform that will not only promote entrepreneurship but also provide information and knowledge for individuals seeking to either start or grow their business’s.

According to research 80% of people have the desire to start their own businesses. Now the question remains, ‘if that is the case then what’s stopping them? There are a few reasons such as fear, not enough capital and so on but the big one is that people don’t really know exactly what steps to take and how to get started. This is even worse for young aspiring entrepreneurs who have great business ideas which will never see the light of day because they don’t know how they going to do it. That is the reality we are faced with.

With the Business Talk the goal is to create an environment where young people who are either in business or those who want to start their own businesses can come together, network, share and exchange ideas on how to start and grow a businesses. We are able to achieve this by bringing in business support institutions and young entrepreneurs who know what it takes to succeed in Business.

Individually our speakers share their entrepreneurial journey,

  • how they started,
  • why they started,
  • how they managed to become successful and
  • giving valuable advice which our audience can be able to apply

We also psychologically prepare our participants for the journey of becoming an entrepreneur, because entrepreneurship is no easy task there are many challenges and struggles that come with it. So What we want to do is to make sure that young people understand that success won’t happen overnight it, but it’s possible, through implementing the fundamentals, patience, persistence, hard work and dedication.

The purpose of this event is to also create a networking platform where as young people in business we work together and create opportunities for one another and contribute towards the success of one another. What we are trying to say is that we don’t have to walk this journey as individuals, we can do it together and all benefit in some way. Let me give you an example of exactly what I am talking about here. Last year the Business Talk introduced us to Mluleki Qwabe, who was a speaker at last years event, and he will be speaking again at this years event. He introduced us to his Business associate Praise Khumalo who is the founder of Focalsoft. Now Focalsoft and UvoLwethu Communications have been strategic partners for about a year now. What we do is very simple we use the services of Focalsoft in our business and vice versa, if someone comes to us requring a service which Focalsoft offers, we introduce that person or company to Focalsoft, we offer our services to Focalsoft and Focalsoft offers their services to us, we use the concept of bartering so to speak. It is a very simple concept which benefits both parties involved.

Our vision is to build a huge network using the concept I have just mentioned.  As young entrepreneurs if we start working together by doing business with each other and creating opportunities for one another our businesses would grow 10X quicker. Then when this starts happening it will then become our responsibility to create employment for other young people. This is how we are going to decrease youth unemployment in our country.

That is our vision with the Business Talk, and if we work together we can achieve the impossible.  But the trick is we can’t do it as individuals, we can only achieve it if we work together as one.

This event is free and open to all members of the public.
